Environmental Health and Safety Policy
Keysbond recognizes its responsibility as a corporate citizen.
Through our Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) Management Systems:
- We will take the necessary measures to provide a safe and healthy workplace, protect the environment, conserve energy and natural resources, and prevent pollution and labor risks by applying appropriate management practices and technology.
- We will monitor and measure our performance and comply with all applicable EHS legal and other requirements we subscribe to maintain our status as a responsible corporate citizen in all locations in which we operate.
- We will periodically review our practices and procedures to address changing circumstances, and to continually improve our performance.
- We will openly make this policy available to all persons working for or on behalf of Keysbond, vendors, customers, and the public.
- We will promote and foster a culture where it is the responsibility of its management, persons working for or on behalf of Keysbond, and business associates to work in partnership for the benefit of the environment and the health and safety of all.
Environmental Directives
In January 2003, the European Union (EU) adopted two environmental directives,
RoHS and WEEE, to contribute to the protection of human health and environmentally
sound recovery and disposal of electrical and electronic equipment.
RoHS stands for the Restriction
of Hazardous
Substances
and bans the use of lead, mercury, cadmium, hexavalent chromium, polybrominated
biphenyls (PBBs) and polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) in electronical
and electronic products. This directive comes into force 1 July 2006.
The WEEE directive, Waste
Electrical
and Electronic
Equipment,
concentrates on the recyclability of electrical and electronic products, and
states that, from 13 August 2005 onwards, manufacturers are required to finance
the collection, treatment and recycling and recovery of all WEEE sold under
their brand.
The RoHS and WEEE directives significantly impact the design and manufacture
of electrical and electronic products. It is Keysbond's policy to
- Adopt a progressive position to ensure that Keysbond clearly complies with any legal obligations the company has
- Ensure that we can appropriately support Keysbond customers in their desire to do the same
- Realize whatever opportunities these directives may present in adding to our competitive competencies portfolio
- Execute these in the most cost-effective manner possible
Environmental Leadership
Keysbond's staff has many years of experience in green manufacturing and recycling. Keysbond's lead-free soldering initiative, for example, goes back to 2003. Since then the company has made significant contributions to the field of lead-free solder, in design, implementation and leadership. Since 2004, Keysbond has introduced multiple products (including digital cameras, electronic dictionaries, etc.) for a number of leading branded technology companies using lead-free solder.
